Mold Prevention - How to Prevent Mold From Appearing and Spreading

Mold is a serious problem that affects many homes. In fact in some cases, mold can single handedly able to completely ruin a property. This is not only because the mold itself is so unattractive and because it spreads rapidly, but also because it causes damage to anything it touches resulting in your wall paper, tiles, carpet and more all coming away from your floors and walls and looking damaged and decayed. Further, mold is something that can cause a lot of health difficulties – mold releases mold spores and when you breath these in they bombard your immune system leaving you feeling run down and tired. Further it dries out your skin leading to eczema and affects your lungs worsening or even causing asthma. For these reasons mold cleaning and remediation of mold are highly important to ensure that you can live happily and healthily in your home – but better yet is to live in such a way that you can avoid needing mold cleaning in the first place and that remediation of mold is unnecessary. Tou know what they say: prevention is better than cure!

Mold Inspection

To do this you first need to be vigilant on the look-out for mold. You need to make sure that you keep looking for mold and that you act as soon as you notice it. The most common places for mold to form are in moist rooms with lots of condensation (such as conservatories or bathrooms) and places where air can't circulate to dry out such as behind furniture and behind radiators. You can then do a little of your own mold cleaning with some bleach or specific mold removal product – but be sure to use a professional service if it is too set in.

Climate Control

At the same time to avoid needing mold removal you need to maintain the quality of your atmosphere, and most importantly you need to keep it warm and dry. Mold forms in moist areas, so if you have beads of condensation on your walls or ceiling this is very likely to cause mold. Condensation meanwhile is formed when moisture in the air grips to cold surfaces – so to avoid mold forming somewhere you should make sure to avoid letting your walls and the rest of your property from getting too cold. Keeping your heating on high is an important way to do this, and particularly as you approach winter. In the long run it will actually be cheaper to do this constantly than it will be to try and warm your home once it is already winter – as the condensation will otherwise sap heat from your walls and they will be too cold to warm without really cranking your heating up. Opening windows is also important, and it's wise to do this during the day and in the mornings. This is because the air outside will dry out the moisture in your rooms and this prevents condensation from forming that way too. Be sure to avoid creating more moisture and you'll be less likely to need remediation of mold. To do this avoid leaving hot water from standing, or drying out clothes in doors, and be sure to wipe down wet surfaces with a dry cloth.
